THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES…UPCOMING EVENTS 2019
As summer comes to an end and we’re looking forward to an awesome autumn and warm winter, there is Adventure in the air in Plettenberg Bay. While the beach takes centre stage during our summer months, our other natural attractions are given the opportunity to shine out of Plett’s high season – as evidenced by the popular Easter festivals of Buco Adventure and the Garden Route Walking Festival – a welcome start to adventure season in Plettenberg Bay.
Here’s a line-up of exciting upcoming sporting and adventure events to add to your calendar for 2019:
TSITSIKAMMA ULTRA
4 May 2019
Trail runners will love the trails and scenery of this popular annual trail run, organised by adventure racers, Muddy Foot Adventures. The 60km trail starts at the Big Tree in Tsitsikamma and finishes at Nature’s Valley, taking runners through the gorgeous Tsitsikamma section of the Garden Route National Park. Runners will journey through the heart of the Tsitsikamma Mountains, where extensive patches of indigenous Afromontane forest and Fynbos naturally occur. The mountains form the watershed for a myriad of streams and rivers, many of which are fountainheads for the wider, slower-flowing and magnificently sculptured rivers of the Tsitsikamma coastline. The run follows the Tsitsikamma Hiking Trail in reverse. Find out more…
DR EVIL CLASSIC
19 – 21 September
Three days of spectacular MTB trails – each very different from the last – exploring more of the exciting biking opportunities in and around Plettenberg Bay! The extremely popular Dr Evil Classic attracts riders from across the country to ride three different days (now, with accommodation available in town, rather than camping at race villages): the first day starts at Big-Five Plett Game Reserve riding amongst the wildlife – this is something very special, the second day takes place on Kurland Estate, which has been working hard this past year to develop new routes for riders and finishes with a day along the renowned Cairnbrogie coastal trails. KAROO 2 COAST
22 September 2019
Riders get a two-for-one in September with the always-sold-out Karoo2Coast ride. The 100km ride takes place over a single day – from the inland town of Uniondale through Prince Alfred Pass to the coast at Knysna. The route is scenic and challenging and K2C riders receive a discount on their Dr Evil Classic entry, so this one needs to be diarised for all mountain-bikers. Find out more…
