ROMANCE IN THE PLETT WINELANDS AND BEYOND
Valentine’s Day is around the corner and romance in the air in Plettenberg Bay. The weather in February is gorgeous, our restaurants will be putting together food pairings fit for lovers and Cornerway House is a secluded oasis from the cares of your new year. It’s the perfect time to take a short breakaway in Plett to celebrate with that special person in your life. Here are some lovely and loving ways to spend your day…
A CARRIAGE RIDE THROUGH THE PLETT WINELANDS
Settle in to the rhythm of the horses’ steps as you and your partner enjoy a glass of bubbly with views of the Plett Winelands and the Tsitsikamma Mountains beyond. The Hog Hollow Horse Carriage just whispers rustic romance, perfect for loved-up couples who enjoy nature, good food and wine. Excursions offered for 30 minutes, one hour and two hours.
A HORSE RIDE & PICNIC IN THE CRAGS
You don’t have to do anything to enjoy this romantic experience, Hog Hollow Horse Trail will take care of everything! Enjoy a beautiful ride through forest, field, tea plantation and vineyard with views across the Tsitsikamma Mountains to the elegant Kurland Polo Estate. Riders of all skills are welcome and will enjoy a deluxe picnic with beverages either under the oak trees of the estate or on the hotel verandah. This is a unique way to explore lovely Crags region on horseback and spend some quality time with your loved one. Departs daily at 11am.
SUNSET ON ROBBERG
For an incredibly romantic and memorable ‘Plett feeling’, grab a chilled bottle of Plett wine, some cheese from the cheese man and a baguette from Le Fournil de Plett and head up to Robberg for a romantic sunset picnic. The wild side of Robberg offers not only spectacular views out to The Island (below) and a gorgeous sunset westwards along the coast. The parking area features stone braais and picnic tables, but keep in mind that Robberg is a popular evening location, so get there early. Robberg is run by Cape Nature and is open from sunrise to sunset, so check times before you head out. We’d recommend making a day of it and hiking the peninsula before sunset. Read our blog on hiking Robberg here.
HIKE SALT RIVER
Active couples will love the hike to Salt River at Nature’s Valley. Nature’s Valley is a part of the Garden Route National Park and the end point of the famous Otter Trail. A hike down to Salt River is a discovery of natural wonders for couples to explore: stroll down through indigenous forest with breathtaking views of the Salt River mouth and the ocean beyond – you’ll feel like you’re the only people in the world. The lagoon and beach are the perfect place for a light picnic and a swim. Find out more in our blog on Salt River here
TASTES OF THE PLETT WINELANDS
The Plett Winelands are a popular destination for both weddings and honeymoons and it’s not hard to see why. Our wine region offers tastings from Harkerville to the Crags, with bubbly and still white the main produce (at this early stage). As the estates have grown in size and popularity, they’ve added lovely tasting rooms and restaurants for an intimate and relaxed dining experience. Wine Estates with restaurants are Newstead Lund Family Vineyards, Packwood Country Estate, Kay and Monty Vineyards, Bramon Wine Estate, Lodestone Wine & Olives.
SUNSET AT EMILY’S RESTAURANT
Both Emily’s Restaurant and Simon’s Bar offer an elegant, quirky and inspiring dining experience, with more than a touch of romance. As the sun sets on the landward side of Plettenberg Bay, Emily’s view across the Bitou River and wetlands are incredible and both restaurants serve up homegrown and locally sourced produce. However, where Simon’s Bar focuses on gourmet pizzas and cocktails, Emily’s offers a delicious home-style, African-inspired menu. Either way, you’re guaranteed an unforgettable evening.
